(2022) Treylon Burks - Wide Receiver - Arkansas

6’3

225 lbs

Junior

Write-Up:

Treylon Burks is a large Wide Receiver, playing at 6’3, 225 lbs, who was used in a variety of roles at Arkansas, though he lined up mostly from the slot. Burks is a tremendous athlete who has great burst and speed to pair with his large frame. He was utilized in nearly every way possible at Arkansas, from the slot, to the outside, to screens and jet sweeps. This versatility allowed him to get the ball often and his burst allowed him to rack up yardage even on short throws or runs. While he is not the strongest receiver, especially for his size, he will shed tacklers at a high rate with the ball in his hands. While his footwork is not elite, he does have the ability to make defenders miss at times. Burks has an outstanding catch radius thanks to his size and is incredible at high-pointing the football and out-muscling defenders to make the catch. His hands are incredibly solid and he will make jaw-dropping catches at times. He has the speed and power to outwork press man coverages, though he did not face them too often in college, and can be a home-run hitter down the field.

Because of how he was utilized in the Arkansas offense, Burks ran a fairly limited route tree, mainly consisting of streaks, small curls and post routes. His route running ability for more complex routes does need to be coached up. He almost solely relies on his athletic traits to create separation from defenders rather than shiftiness on routes. His blocking does leave a lot to be desired, and often in college he could be seen taking plays off if he was not going to be targeted.

Overall, Treylon Burks is an athletic specimen that could be a superstar in the NFL if utilized in a proper way that adheres to his strengths. He possesses the size, speed, burst, and catching ability to be an elite receiver though may need to be schemed into getting the football at times. His route tree is limited at this point, though I believe he could expand it given enough time and proper coaching. If used in a beneficial system, Burks could be a very versatile receiver that either plays as a very large and tough to bring down slot weapon, or as a deep threat with speed to win over the top.
