(2022) Jermaine Johnson II - Edge Rusher - Florida State

Write-up:

Jermaine Johnson II is an extremely athletic Edge Rusher out of Florida State. Playing at 6’5 262 lbs, his athleticism is off the charts, especially his speed and acceleration. He is fantastic in pursuit of the ball-carrier and a solid tackler to boot, which allows him to make tackles both in the backfield and down the field easily. He displays elite power when rushing, and any lineman not prepared for a bull rush are very easily driven back, though it is unclear how this power will translate to the NFL level against much larger and tougher tackles. Johnson has a variety of pass rush moves that he can utilize, including swims, bat-downs, and stabs. His spin move is elite, and he should utilize it more often than he does currently. He was very successful in designed stunt rushes, as his speed allowed him to get past the line before an adjustment could come. While double-teams do slow him down, he is bendy enough to sometimes work through them.

Despite the plethora of moves at his disposal, Johnson can sometimes become one-dimensional and try the same moves over and over again, even after adjustment from the lineman. Reps from him are usually decided very early; he either wins off the line or loses and is out of the play.

Overall, Jermaine Johnson II is a solid day one pass rusher who has the build and potential to become elite given the proper development and training. He possesses great athleticism, specifically speed, and a slew of potential pass rushing moves to utilize, but needs to utilize them all more consistently.
