Write-Up:
Felix Anudike-Uzomah is an intriguing Junior pass rusher from Kansas State. He was only a 2-year starter but has been very productive in those seasons, including 13 sacks in his true sophomore season. He has not missed time with injury in his time at Kansas State. He generally lined up as the 4i in the Wildcats’ 3-4 defense, though did see some snaps at 5, 3, and 6 technique.
Felix has a lot going for him on film that should catch the attention of a lot of people. Though he is smaller for a defensive end that played more towards the interior, he has a strong frame with long arms that help Anudike-Uzomah create power and leverage. He has very good bend which allows him to be a really great block shedder. He almost always finds a way to wiggle or push his way out of a block (even two or three!) if given enough time. Anudike-Uzomah also has a power element to his game, though I wish he would be more consistent in using it. His block shedding ability lends itself very well to run defense, where he is constantly moving laterally through blockers across the line to clog up running lanes. He is good in pursuit and has the speed to chase down ball carriers at times.
There are some concerns with Felix Anudike-Uzomah’s game that do need to be noted however. The most notable one is his lack of burst off the line as a rusher. There are some plays where he gets a good get off and is able to truly wreck a play, but the majority of the time he is just a bit behind, which may only get exemplified at the next level. As stated previously, he does need to be more consistent with his hand usage as a pass rusher, he can rely too much on speed rushing tactics. In run defense, he can get overextended and lose his contain while trying to make a play. There are a few instances of him trying to force his way to the inside of a blocker rather than holding his containment, sometimes leading to big run plays.
Overall, Felix Anudike-Uzomah has a lot of really good traits and tape that should make some NFL teams very excited. There are definitely concerns with his burst and edge containment, but his block shedding ability and fluidity make him an intriguing, high-upside player in the Draft.
Draft Projection: Late Round 1-2
