Write-Up:

Jammie Robinson is an athletic, versatile safety who projects to be a solid player at the NFL level, though there are some noticeable holes in his game.

Robinson’s biggest strength is his additions to the run defense. He has great speed and acceleration, and excels in pursuit. Robinson is a very solid tackler and almost never shies away from a collision with the ball carrier. He always seems to find a good angle to make tackles from and his athleticism can help him recover and adjust on the fly to the runners path. FSU deployed Jammie in a variety of roles, from over the top safety, to nickel, to a box defender.  He was fairly solid in man coverage when asked to play it, though sometimes he was aided more by his athletic ability rather than play recognition. He absolutely has the traits and ability to be a good, rangy over the top player but was never truly consistent at it.

The biggest question mark for Robinson at the next level will be his coverage skills. Again, the athleticism is absolutely there, but Robinson lacked consistency in both man and zone coverages. There are multiple instances of Robinson “covering grass” while in zone coverage. More often than not, he covered empty areas of the field, or hesitated to move to cover receivers passing through. His zone instincts were fairly lacking. He sometimes was late to recognize that help over the top was needed, leading to big plays.

Overall, Jammie Robinson is an elite run defense first safety. He excels at moving downhill quickly to a rusher, and is a very solid tackler. He has the athletic ability to be placed in multiple positions on the field, from deep safety to box linebacker. There are question marks about his coverage skills, specifically in zone coverage, where he often struggled to adjust his zone based on the play. The athletic traits are absolutely present with Robinson, and hopefully he can develop into a more well-rounded player at the next level. For right now though, Robinson can succeed as a “box safety” type, especially on earlier downs.
