Write-Up:
Isaiah Land is a very productive edge rusher out of Florida A&M, where he played 3 seasons (2020 season canceled due to COVID). Land produced an immense 2021 season, where he led the nation with 19 total sacks and 55 pressures, though his numbers dropped dramatically this season. He also did miss some time this season with an injury. Land largely lined up as a typical 5-tech or wide 7/9 technique outside linebacker.
Isaiah Land is a really intriguing speed rusher who is an exceptional athlete. He has really good burst and acceleration off the line of scrimmage and his speed is his main way of winning reps. He is a fluid mover in space and his downhill speed makes him a dangerous player when attacking the outside edge. He does have a bendiness to him that allows him to work the outside edge and fight through contact well as he fights towards the QB.
Land’s agility allows him to utilize a significant spin move in his pass rush, which is one of his favorite moves to use.
There are plenty of concerns to have with Isaiah Land’s game though. He is a fairly one-dimensional edge rusher, where he really lacks the power element as a rusher. While he does have access to a select few pass rush moves, his overall arsenal is extremely small and limited. If Land cannot win to the outside, he often is stymied and finds himself out of the play more often than not. Land is an extremely inconsistent tackler and can easily overextend himself in run defense. He has some concerns regarding his length and size, as he weighs around 225 pounds and seems to have shorter arms, which will have an impact on his potential future at the next level. As a whole, Land needs a lot of polish to most of his game.
Overall, Isaiah Land is an intriguing developmental edge rusher that is worth a flier on in the 2023 NFL Draft. His athleticism and speed certainly jumps off the screen at times, but there is a lot of development needed for Land to become more than a rotational pass rusher at the next level. I could see him starting his career as a special teamer (if the tackling can get cleaned up), with a few snaps in pass rush downs.
Draft Projection: Rounds 4-6
